Junior section going from strength to strength for Wroughton Bowls Club
Summer 2019 has proven to be a fantastic one for Wroughton Bowls Club as the club has grown its junior section. A grant of £500 was awarded from the Swindon Sports Forum to help expand the junior offering at the club.
The majority of the money was spent by the bowls club to buy official sized junior bowls sets. This allowed the club to run a fantastic taster session with the local primary school to introduced young children into the sport of bowls. A total of 172 children took part with many of them returning to the bowls club to join in with the Friday evening academy session.
The club open day, coinciding with the village duck race also saw numerous children down on the rink for the first time. This along with the work completed with the primary school has seen the academy section grow from 6 to around 15 participants.
Over the winter, the club will continue to run a session for its junior members to help retain their interest over the quieter months for the sport. The club hope for another successful summer in 2020 with even more younger people taking part in the sport of bowls.
